Three people were injured due to a drunk driver in Yavoriv district

Police detain a drunk driver on suspicion of committing an accident that injured three people

The detainee faces imprisonment for up to three years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of three to five years.

The road accident occurred on 19 July at around 19.30 in a village in Yavoriv district.

As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, a Ford Mondeo driven by a 34-year-old resident of the district and a VAZ-21063 driven by a 38-year-old local resident collided. As a result of the collision, the driver of the Zhiguli and her two passengers, children aged 8 and 10, were injured and taken to hospital.

The driver of the Ford Mondeo was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. It was established that he was driving the vehicle while intoxicated.

Investigators of the Yavoriv District Police Department opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 1 of Article 286-1 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to three years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of three to five years.

The police are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
