Under the procedural supervision of prosecutors of the Specialised Environmental Prosecutor’s Office (as a department) of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a deputy of a village council in Lviv region was served a notice of suspicion of illegal mining activities (Part 1 Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the suspect organised illegal sand mining on the territory of Zhovkva district on a land plot belonging to the local territorial community.
Using special equipment, the man extracted and subsequently sold the minerals to a local resident.
The investigation is ongoing.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, with operational support provided by the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region of the State Secret Service of the National Police of Ukraine.
Note: according to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
