Two cases of fictitious marriages were detected by border guards in the Lviv region in one day

On 19 July, border guards in the Lviv region uncovered signs of illegal actions related to marriages without the intention of creating a family in two cases.

During the border control at the Shehyni checkpoint, servicemen of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment exposed signs of illegal schemes of marrying men of military age to women with disabilities to travel abroad.

In one case, a 44-year-old native of Ivano-Frankivsk region married a 66-year-old woman

The man said he was taking his “wife” to Poland for treatment. But the couple could not give the same answers to a number of logical questions. The woman said she was going for joint treatment, the man said he had diabetes. The “wife” said they had known each other for 10 years, the husband said he had known her all his life and also knew her previous husband, who had died.

The “spouses” also do not live together.

Law enforcement officers established that the woman agreed to the fictitious marriage for two thousand US dollars.

In another case, a 26-year-old resident of Prykarpattia married a 31-year-old woman.

He also claimed that they were going abroad to treat his wife. His further answers were also inconsistent.

As a result, the operational staff of the Lviv Border Guard Detachment sent a report to the National Police about the detection of signs of a criminal offence under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine”.
