Two local residents of Lviv Oblast for illegal felling of trees with losses of almost 1 million hryvnias

Under the procedural leadership of the Stryi district prosecutor’s office, indictments were sent to the court against two local residents on the facts of illegal logging (parts 1, 4 of article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

It was established that one of the accused, without a special permit, carried out illegal felling of trees in the forestry of one of the branches of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”, the territory of which belongs to the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine.

The man sawed the cut wood and transported it to his own household, where an underground sawmill was set up.

As a result of the illegal felling of trees in the natural reserve of the Lviv Region, the state suffered more than UAH 900,000 in damages.

According to a similar scheme, another accused carried out illegal felling of trees in a forest massif on the forestry territory of one of the branches of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”.

He sawed some of the wood and moved it to the rented building, and left the rest at the site of the illegal felling for further appropriation. Such actions caused 80,000 hryvnias of damage to the state.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of police department No. 3 of the Stryi district police department of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
