Former official of Yavoriv district utility suspected of embezzling UAH 1 million on coal purchases

Under the procedural supervision of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office, the former director of a utility company in Yavoriv district was served a notice of suspicion. He is charged with embezzlement of property on an especially large scale (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in 2022, the utility company and the company entered into a contract for the supply of coal for heating the institution worth more than UAH 2 million.

However, the suspect, being an authorized person, did not conduct a price study of the market value of coal before concluding the contract. The latter also ignored the fact that the commercial offer of the business entity exceeded the market value by 2 times, and the coal itself did not meet the declared quality and classification.

As a result, the utility company suffered losses in excess of UAH 1 million.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect’s property was seized at the request of the prosecutor.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Yavoriv District Police Department of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv Region.

Note: in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
