Lviv customs inspector to be tried for illegal import of goods worth almost UAH 5 million without paying duty

Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office completed the pre-trial investigation and sent to court an indictment against a state inspector of the Yavoriv customs post of the Lviv Customs on the facts of abuse of office and forgery (Part 2 of Article 364, Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that the official allowed a loaded truck to enter the customs territory of Ukraine, registering it as empty.

The accused entered false information about the absence of cargo into the automated customs clearance system Inspector and attached a photo of another empty vehicle.

This enabled her to import goods worth almost UAH 5 million without paying customs duties.

As a result, the state did not pay mandatory customs duties totalling about UAH 1.2 million.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
