Smuggling of more than 1 ton of heroin – four foreigners were sentenced in Lviv region

According to the public indictment of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, four citizens of Turkey were found guilty of smuggling narcotics in particularly large quantities and their illegal acquisition, storage and transportation for the purpose of sale (part 3 of article 305, part 3 of article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The court sentenced them to 10, 9, 8, and 7 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property, respectively.

Prosecutors proved in court that foreigners organized a large-scale scheme of smuggling drugs from Pakistan, transiting through Ukraine, to the countries of the European Union.

A cargo with a narcotic drug with a total weight of more than 1,000 kg was delivered to the sea port of Odesa region. They disguised the drugs in sacks of rice to cross the borders without hindrance.

After customs clearance, the cargo was transported and stored in a warehouse in Lviv.

Subsequently, the convicts planned to transport the drugs to Europe under the guise of diplomatic cargo.

The value of a particularly dangerous drug at black market prices is about UAH 2.3 billion.

The convicts will remain in custody until the verdict becomes final.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the investigators of the SBU Office in the Lviv region.
