Apartment thieves from Lviv will spend 3 years behind bars

The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office appealed in the Court of Appeal the decision of the court of first instance for two local residents convicted of theft (part 3 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). By the verdict of the Shevchenkiv District Court, they were sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment each and released from serving the sentence with a probationary period.

Disagreeing with this decision, the prosecutors, considering the sentence too lenient for such a crime, appealed it.

During the trial, it was established that in September 2019 in Lviv, two comrades committed apartment burglaries.

In particular, the convicts, taking advantage of the absence of apartment owners, used a metal key to open a plastic window and enter their apartments. There, the latter stole valuable things and equipment.

In general, the defendants took possession of the property of the victims for a total amount of over UAH 70,000.

The appellate court, after carefully examining the materials, supported the prosecution’s position and passed a new sentence. According to which the defendants were sentenced to the actual measure of punishment – 3 years of imprisonment.
