Doctor of Sokal hospital fined for drunken driving

Doctor of Sokal hospital found guilty of driving while intoxicated

The Chervonohrad City Court of Lviv Region found a doctor of the Sokal District Hospital guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol. The defendant himself stated that he had not been drinking alcohol and had only been taking Valocordin.

According to a court ruling published in November 2024, on the evening of 24 May, he was driving a Mazda 6 in Sheptytsky (formerly Chervonohrad). During the check, the police noticed signs of intoxication. The driver refused to take the test on the spot and insisted on being tested in a medical facility, where he had 0.59 ppm of alcohol in his blood (with a permissible limit of 0.2 ppm).

A report was drawn up against the offender for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sentence justification

The case file states that the defendant is a doctor at the Sokal District Hospital. The defendant himself explained that he did not drink alcohol, but took Valocordin three times a day. However, Judge Nelia Otchak did not take this argument into account.

The court found the doctor of the Sokal hospital guilty and sentenced him to a fine of UAH 17,000 and a ban on driving vehicles for one year.

The court ruling may be appealed.
