Lviv residents organized an illegal border crossing scheme for men for 7 thousand dollars

7000 USD for a second driver’s seat – police block a criminal border crossing scheme in Lviv region

Men of military age were employed by companies engaged in international cargo transportation and their data were entered into an information database. Such actions provided the evaders with grounds to cross the border without hindrance.

Residents of Lviv were involved in the operation of a criminal scheme for crossing the border by men of military age. In exchange for a monetary reward, they “organized” the grounds for traveling abroad. Those willing were registered as second drivers for companies engaged in international cargo transportation. Later, the information was entered into an information database. The cost of this service was $7000 per person.

On April 30, operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region, together with investigators of the Investigation Department of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, exposed one of the defendants while receiving the money. He was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court imposed on the suspect a custody as a measure of restraint with the right to be released on bail in excess of UAH 242,000. Measures are being taken to serve a notice of suspicion to the second participant of the criminal scheme.

Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine is punishable by imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.
