Resident of Zhovkva district strangled his ex-wife and stole property

Resident of Zhovkva district taken into custody for committing domestic violence and stealing property of ex-wife

Under the procedural supervision of prosecutors of the Zhovkva District Prosecutor’s Office, a 44-year-old resident of the district was served a notice of suspicion of domestic violence and robbery (Art. 126-1, Part 4 Art. 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the suspect systematically committed physical and psychological violence against his ex-wife, for which he had been convicted several times before.

In addition, in May 2024, in the victim’s home, the man again started a verbal conflict for no reason, during which he used insulting and obscene language against her. Subsequently, the defendant began to strangle the victim by the neck with his own hands.

As a result, such unlawful actions of the man led to physical and psychological suffering, as well as to a deterioration in the victim’s quality of life.

Almost a month later, the suspect robbed his ex-wife at her place of residence. In particular, he seized her phone, hit her on the head and fled.

The man is currently in custody.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Police Department No. 2 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
