Resident of Sambir district will spend more than 8 years behind bars for drug trafficking

Following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the first instance court. The latter ruling found the 36-year-old man, who had been previously convicted, guilty of storing and selling drugs, as well as their illegal acquisition and storage without the intent to sell on a large scale (Part 2 of Article 307, Part 2 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He was sentenced to 8 years and 1 month of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Prosecutors proved in court that in one of the towns of Sambir district, the convict illegally sold drugs to local residents.

Also, during searches in the man’s apartment, they found poppy straws weighing more than 1.5 kg, which he kept for his own consumption.

The defendant’s lawyer filed an appeal, in which he asked to reduce the term of imprisonment and release him from serving a sentence with probation with the establishment of a probationary period.

However, the court agreed with the arguments of the regional prosecutors and dismissed the defense’s appeal.
