Resident of Stryi sold e-cigarettes and e-liquids without excise duty via Telegram channel

Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have sent to court an indictment against a 24-year-old resident of Stryi. He is charged with illegal acquisition and storage with intent to sell illegally manufactured excisable goods (Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that the accused purchased e-cigarettes and e-liquids via Telegram channels, which he intended to sell in the same way. However, the man was not legally registered as a business entity and, accordingly, did not have a permit or licence to sell excisable goods.

The goods he received by mail were stored in pre-rented warehouses in Stryi.

During the authorised searches, the law enforcement officers found and seized e-cigarettes and e-liquids used in them without excise stamps. Their estimated value is over UAH 9 million.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by detectives of the Territorial Department of the BES in Lviv region.

Note: In accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
