Through the court, the city will require the driver who rammed through the gate of the Lychakiv cemetery in January to compensate for the damage caused. The Museum “Lychakivskyi Cemetery” applied to the Lychakivskyi District Court with the relevant claim.
“A lawsuit has been filed. We are waiting for the opening of proceedings in this case,” the legal department of the Lviv City Council said.
Earlier, the court found the driver guilty of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and violating traffic rules, which caused property damage. He was brought to administrative responsibility in the form of a fine of UAH 17,000 and was deprived of his driving license for one year.
At the court hearing, the driver tried to deny his involvement in the accident. However, witnesses identified him as the person who committed the accident.

In order to carry out repair and restoration works, almost 2/3 of the gate will have to be dismantled to the base, the cracked blocks will have to be replaced with new ones, and then all the elements will be assembled again. According to the estimate, the preliminary cost of restoring the gate is UAH 710,000.
In addition, the gate from the street Shimzeriv was built in 1901 in the Neo-Gothic style from sandstone. On the gate there is a medallion with the image of the Mother of God, by Emil Shredl. In 2015, the city restored this century-old gate.
