Poacher hunts “Red Book” elk in Drohobych region

A poacher who illegally hunted a “red book” elk was exposed by police in Lviv region

The resident of Drohobych faces up to three years in prison for his crime.

According to law enforcement officers, on February 4, a 37-year-old resident of the district center hunted a moose included in the “List of Species of Animals Included in the Red Book of Ukraine” in a forest area in Drohobych district without a permit.

Investigators of the Drohobych District Police Department, under the procedural supervision of the Drohobych District Prosecutor’s Office, served the offender a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Article 248 (Illegal hunting) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a fine of one thousand to three thousand tax-free minimum incomes, or community service for a term of one hundred sixty to two hundred forty hours, or imprisonment for up to three years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
