A 36-year-old mother will be tried in Zhovkiv Oblast for maliciously neglecting her child care duties

The prosecutors of the Zhovkiv district prosecutor’s office sent an indictment to the court against a 36-year-old woman for the fact of maliciously failing to fulfill the duties established by law to care for a child, which caused serious consequences (Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that in August of last year the accused gave birth to a child who needed and needs special care due to prematurity and the diseases she was diagnosed with.

However, since the birth of the child, the woman led an anti-social lifestyle, abused alcoholic beverages, and did not fulfill the duties established by law to take care of the child.

In particular, she did not provide proper nutrition of the minor with a special caloric mixture that would ensure his physical development and vital activities, did not provide the child with proper living conditions and proper medical support that the minor needed.

As a result, in January of this year, the child was hospitalized in the intensive care unit with a critically low weight and a number of diseases.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was carried out by the investigators of the police department No. 2 of the LRUP No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a guilty verdict.
