Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Region Prosecutor’s Office, the deputy head of a territorial community in Lviv region was exposed and served a notice of suspicion. He is charged with extortion and obtaining an unlawful benefit (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the official demanded a USD 1,000 bribe from a Lviv resident to provide him with an undue benefit for the privatisation of a land plot and a garden house.
In return, the official promised not to create obstacles in the registration of ownership of the above-mentioned real estate.
The suspect was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine after receiving the agreed amount of money.
The investigation is ongoing. The issue of removing the suspect from his position is being decided.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by investigators of the Investigation Department of the Main Department of the National Police of the region, operational support is provided by the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region of the State Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
Note: In accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
