According to the public indictment of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, two citizens of Ukraine were found guilty of treason, participation in a terrorist organization, and the activities of armed groups not provided for by law (parts 1, 2 of article 111, part 1 of article 258-3, part 2 of article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
They were each sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The prosecutor proved in court that the residents of Donetsk region and Luhansk in February 2022 voluntarily switched to the side of the enemy. They joined the illegal armed formations of the “people’s militia” of the terrorist organizations “DNR” and “LNR”.
The men underwent military training and acquired skills in the use of weapons, mastered the tactics of conducting a battle, carrying out an assault, offensive, retreat, and providing first aid in case of injuries.
They were enrolled in the 1st separate motorized rifle brigade of the Slavic military unit 08801 and 1 department of the 1st platoon of the 4th company of the 2nd battalion of the 202nd rifle regiment, respectively. One of the convicts performed the duties of a paramedic and a gunner, the other was also a gunner.
In addition, the men ensured the security of the places of stay of the Russian army. A native of Luhansk helped to strengthen positions, set up dugouts, hide observation points, and also inspected vehicles and checked the documents of civilians traveling in them at checkpoints.
The extras fought in populated areas of Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv regions. Their activities have been suspended due to their detention by the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
A special pre-trial investigation was carried out by the investigators of the SBU Office in the Lviv region.
