The 16-year-old pedestrian died at the scene from his injuries. The 48-year-old driver faces up to eight years’ imprisonment for his actions.
The road accident occurred on 1 November at around one in the morning on the Zolochiv-Brody road within the village of Sasiv, Zolochiv district.
An unknown driver, driving an unidentified car, hit a pedestrian, a 16-year-old resident of a neighbouring village, and fled the scene. As a result of the collision, the boy sustained injuries and died at the scene of the accident.
Investigators of the Zolochiv District Police Department opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
As a result of the measures taken, having studied the video surveillance footage of the “Safe Lviv Region” system, criminal police operatives, investigators and employees of other services of the territorial police unit, together with employees of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Lviv Police, established that the pedestrian was hit by a Renault truck driver, a resident of Rivne region aged 48.
The law enforcement officers seized the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, and the issue of serving the driver a notice of suspicion of committing a crime is being settled.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
