For influencing the court, the lawyer demanded $1,500 from the client. For what he committed, he faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property
As the investigators of the particularly serious crimes investigation department (detectives) of the investigative department of the Lviv Oblast police together with the operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv Oblast under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Oblast Prosecutor’s Office established, a 34-year-old lawyer, a resident of the city of Drohobych, demanded and received from a client an illegal benefit in the amount 1500 USD.
For this money, the perpetrator promised to influence the court to make a decision not to hold the client responsible for driving while intoxicated.
The law enforcement officers detained the lawyer in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while receiving illegal benefits. Cash in the amount of USD 1,500 was seized from him.
The investigators informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 3 of Article 369-2 (Abuse of Influence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of three to eight years with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
