In Lviv region, police detained a drunk driver involved in an accident that injured three people

The road accident occurred on 6 October at 16.30 on Taras Shevchenko Street in the village of Medenichi, Drohobych district.

Law enforcement officers have preliminarily established that the driver of a Fiat Doblo, a 59-year-old resident of the district, lost control of the car – the car collided with a road fence, then drove into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a Volkswagen Passat driven by a 42-year-old resident of Horodok. As a result of the collision, a 15-year-old passenger and a 39-year-old passenger of the Passat, as well as the driver of the Doblo, were injured. They were taken to hospital.

In addition, it was established that the driver of the Fiat was driving the vehicle while intoxicated.

Investigators of the Drohobych District Police Department opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 1 of Article 286-1 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for up to three years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of three to five years.

The driver of the car was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, the court will soon choose a measure of restraint.

Pre-trial investigation is underway, law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
