Police detain driver involved in road accident that killed two people in Lviv region

The road accident occurred today, 23 September, at around 5.30 a.m. on the Lviv-Ivano-Frankivsk motorway near the village of Vidnyky, Lviv district.

As law enforcement officers have previously established, a Renault Fluence driven by a 22-year-old resident of Lviv district and a VAZ-2106 driven by a 43-year-old resident of a neighbouring village collided. As a result of the accident, the driver of the VAZ and his passenger aged 37 died.

Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Police Investigation Department opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.

The Renault driver was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The police are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
