Operation “Two-wheeled transport” launched in Lviv region
The campaign, during which the police will conduct preventive work with drivers of two-wheeled vehicles, will run from August 7 to September 2. Law enforcement officers urge drivers of motorcycles, mopeds, scooters, and bicycles to carefully follow the requirements of the Traffic Rules.
Since the beginning of the year, 256 road accidents involving motorcyclists, scooter and moped drivers have occurred on the roads of Lviv and the region. Of this number, 194 were accidents with victims, in which 18 people died and 226 were injured. A total of 534 drivers were brought to justice for driving while intoxicated.
Since the beginning of the year, 116 road accidents have involved cyclists. Of this number, 97 were accidents with victims, in which 10 people died and 99 were injured.
Two-wheeled vehicles – motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and bicycles – are becoming increasingly popular, and the number of accidents involving them is growing accordingly. During accidents, the drivers of such vehicles suffer injuries, sometimes incompatible with life, as their degree of protection is much lower than that of motorists. The same applies to the passive and active safety systems that these vehicles are equipped with.
Of course, the main cause of road traffic accidents is the violation of traffic rules and safety requirements by road users. However, sometimes drivers of two-wheelers neglect basic safety standards, for example, by not wearing helmets, which significantly increases the risk of injury – even in the event of a simple fall. Quite often, drivers of two-wheeled vehicles do not have the documents required by law, and sometimes they drive while being drunk.
The Lviv regional police urge you to strictly follow the requirements of the Traffic Rules, be careful, do not exceed the speed limit, maneuver carefully and constantly monitor the road situation. Take care of your life and health – your own and those around you.
And most importantly, be polite and friendly. This will allow you to avoid many troubles on the road.
Also, during the operation “Two-wheelers”, the police will identify vehicles that are wanted, check registration documents and verify the number of units.
