Law enforcers detain organizer of smuggling of persons liable for military service across the border in Lviv region

It has been established that a 41-year-old resident of Lviv district, for three thousand US dollars per person, undertook to organize illegal border crossing for men of military age.

To do this, the suspect had to ensure the production of fictitious documents for the “clients”, which made it possible to leave Ukraine under martial law, as well as to transport them across the state border to one of the European countries.

The offender was exposed by investigators of the Serious Crimes Investigation Department (detectives) of the Lviv Police Investigation Department jointly with operatives of the SBU Office in Lviv region, under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region, and detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on receiving part of the money from the “client”.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Art. 332 (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
