Fatal Accident in Lviv Region: Collision of Bus and Truck

One dead and 16 injured, including four children, as a result of the collision between a bus and a truck in the Lviv region – police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Accident Details

The road traffic accident occurred on March 5th, around 18:00, on the Kyiv-Chop highway near the village of Zaklad, Stryi district.

Preliminary police findings indicate the collision involved an Etalon bus driven by a 62-year-old resident of the Stryi district and a DAF truck operated by a 54-year-old resident of Kherson.

The bus driver died at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident. The truck driver and 15 bus passengers: girls aged 1, 7, 10, and 17 years, ten women aged 19 to 64 years, and a 37-year-old man—all residents of the Stryi district—sustained injuries and were taken to medical facilities.

Investigation and Legal Consequences

Investigators from the Lviv region police’s transport crime investigation department have opened a criminal case under part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of Traffic Safety Rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for imprisonment of three to eight years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years, or without such deprivation.

Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
