Truck Driver in Lviv Region Faces Trial for Attempting to Smuggle a Conscription-Age Man Across Border

A 42-year-old truck driver from Sheptytskyi has been accused of attempting to illegally transport a conscription-age man across the state border. The driver hid the man under the trailer to avoid border control. He now faces three to five years in prison if convicted.

The incident occurred during an attempted crossing of the Ukrainian-Polish border. The driver planned for the hidden passenger to move to the truck’s cab unnoticed after passing the checkpoint. However, law enforcement discovered the hiding spot.

The operation to apprehend the suspect involved officers from the Lviv Region Migration Police, investigators from the Yavoriv District Police Department, and operatives from the 7th Border Guard Carpathian Detachment, under the supervision of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigation and Charges

The pretrial investigation under Article 332, Part 1, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal transportation of persons across the state border) has been completed. The case has been submitted to court.

Penalty

The article prescribes a penalty of three to five years in prison.
