Two pedestrians were killed in car accidents in the Lviv region

The Lviv regional police call on pedestrians to strictly follow the traffic rules, be careful and cautious, cross the road only on pedestrian crossings and on green light, use reflective elements in the dark and in conditions of low visibility, and drivers to not exceed the speed limit, avoid risky manoeuvres and be careful when approaching intersections and pedestrian crossings.

Thus, on 8 December, at 15.00, on the Kyiv-Chop motorway in the village of Yampil. As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of a Volkswagen Crafter, a 33-year-old resident of Rivne region, hit a pedestrian, a 78-year-old resident of Lviv district. The victim died at the scene from his injuries. The driver was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Another road accident occurred at around 18.15 on the Stryi – Dashava highway near the village of Slobidka. Law enforcement officers have preliminarily established that the driver of a Renault, a 42-year-old resident of Stryi district, hit a pedestrian, a 44-year-old resident of Lviv region. As a result of the accident, the man died at the scene.

Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.

Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incidents.
