Lviv region exposes organised group selling drugs in penal colony

Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Region Prosecutor’s Office, three people were exposed and served suspicion notices. They are charged with illegal acquisition, transportation, storage and sale of narcotic drugs (Part 2, 3 Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in Lviv region, the suspects set up a scheme to sell buprenorphine to drug addicts in prisons.

To do this, a member of the organised group who was at large supplied the “goods” to his accomplices in prison, where they were serving their sentences. After the prohibited drugs got to the institution, the two convicts ensured their sale among the arrested.

As a result of the searches, the law enforcement officers found and seized drugs, cash, bank cards, mobile phones, drafts and other material evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects are in custody.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, the operational support is being provided by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
