Scheme of Fake Marriages for Illegal Border Crossings Exposed in Lviv Region
In the Lviv region, law enforcement officers uncovered a scheme involving a woman orchestrating illegal border crossings for two of her fake husbands. It was established that a 43-year-old resident of Lviv district, being a person with a disability, sought out conscripted men who intended to leave the country, entered into fake marriages with them, and thus enabled them to cross Ukraine’s state border amidst martial law conditions.
Operational Exposure and Investigation
The perpetrator was exposed by operatives of the Migration Police Department in Lviv region, in collaboration with investigators of Police Department No. 3 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2, under the procedural guidance of the Pustomitive District Prosecutor’s Office. Law enforcement documented two incidents of the suspect’s illegal activities, committed in 2023 and 2024. In both cases, the fake husbands crossed Ukraine’s state border as individuals accompanying their wife with a disability. Subsequently, the wife returned to Ukraine while the men remained abroad. The marriage was annulled, and the recently divorced woman searched for new ‘clients’ for the role of a fake life companion.
Legal Consequences
The woman has been informed of suspicions regarding criminal offenses outlined in parts 1 and 2 of Article 332 (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty facing the suspect is imprisonment for up to seven years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
