Following a public prosecution by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a 24-year-old man was found guilty. He was convicted of smuggling psychotropic substances on an especially large scale and attempted illegal acquisition and transportation with the intent to sell (Part 3 of Article 305, Part 2 of Article 15, Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court sentenced him to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Prosecutors proved in court that the defendant had implemented a scheme to smuggle psychotropic drugs from the Federal Republic of Germany to the territory of Ukraine.
To do this, the man ordered prohibited substances, including MDMA and amphetamine, through an international postal service. In the shipping documents, he indicated that he was sending a book and a gift.
After customs clearance, the smuggled “goods” were sent to the “customer” for further sale to drug addicts.
The accused will be detained until the verdict enters into force.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the SBU Office in Lviv region.
