Lviv region: Law enforcers detain offender who assisted in smuggling of serviceman across the border
It has been established that for USD 4.5 thousand, a 32-year-old resident of a village in Lviv district undertook to provide a “client” with a detailed GPS route with the coordinates of the place of exit to the state border of Ukraine with one of the European countries, as well as to provide detailed instructions on crossing the border outside checkpoints.
The offender was exposed by investigators of the Drohobych District Police Department jointly with operatives of the SBU Office in Lviv region, under the procedural supervision of the Drohobych District Prosecutor’s Office.
On 4 October, law enforcement officers detained him in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after receiving funds from a “client” in the amount of USD 4.5 thousand.
The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 3 of Article 332 (Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
