Village head in Lviv region demanded USD 4,000 bribe for approval of land allocation to businessman

Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the first deputy village head of a village council in Lviv region was exposed on extortion and receiving an unlawful benefit.

According to the investigation, the official demanded a USD 4,000 bribe from an entrepreneur.

In return for this money, he promised to assist in obtaining a positive decision from the village council to divide the land leased by the businessman.

The man has now been detained and served a notice of suspicion. He is charged with obtaining an unlawful benefit by an official holding a responsible position, committed by a group of persons with currently unidentified persons of the village council, combined with extortion of an unlawful benefit (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The issue of choosing a measure of restraint and removing him from office is being decided.

As part of the pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceedings, a number of authorised searches were conducted.

Investigative actions are ongoing, all persons involved are being identified.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region based on the materials of the SBU Office in Lviv region.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
