The Lviv customs office exposed an illegal car customs clearance scheme – losses estimated at 3 million hryvnias

Under the procedural leadership of the prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a scheme of illegal customs clearance of 47 vehicles without payment of mandatory customs payments was exposed. Four inspectors of the Horodok customs post of the Lviv customs office were notified of suspicion of abuse of office, which caused serious consequences (part 1, part 2 of article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, customs officers, under martial law, entered false data into the automated system of customs clearance “Inspector” between July 1 and 5 of this year, which allowed them to illegally exempt car owners from paying mandatory customs payments.

At that time, the decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on preferential customs clearance of vehicles imported into the country was no longer in effect – it expired on July 1.

Thus, the inspectors’ actions caused losses to the state budget in the amount of more than UAH 3.3 million.

Currently, the question of removing the suspects from their positions and selecting a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved.

Disclosure measures were carried out in cooperation with the Department of Internal Security of the State Customs Service, pre-trial investigation and operational support are carried out by employees of the Department of Internal Affairs and Communications, located in Lviv.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
