In Stryshchyna, the police detained a driver who hit a 16-year-old girl and fled the scene of the accident

The 10th grader died at the scene from her injuries.

The traffic accident occurred on July 9, around 8:15 p.m., on the highway “Kyiv-Chop” in the village of Verkhne Sinyovydne, Stryi District.

As the law enforcement officers established, the driver of the Toyota Land Cryiser, a 62-year-old resident of one of the villages of the Stryi district, while moving in the direction of the city of Chop, ran over a 16-year-old resident of the district, after which he drove away from the scene of the accident.

The schoolgirl died from her injuries before the ambulance arrived.

After carrying out operative and search measures and studying the video from the surveillance cameras of “Safe Lviv Region”, the employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Police of Lviv Region and the employees of the territorial division of the police established the identity of the driver and his location.

Soon he was detained in the village of Dubina in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

According to the fact, the investigators of the Department of Investigation of Crimes in the Field of Transport of the Lviv Oblast Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 (Violation of Traffic Safety Rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of three to eight years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of up to three years or without it.

A pre-trial investigation is being conducted, law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
