A 39-year-old man stole a motorcycle in Yavoriv district – he faces eight years in prison

Lviv region: Police detain offender on suspicion of stealing Musstang motorcycle

Having stolen the vehicle, the suspect hid it in a neighbour’s garage, where it was discovered by law enforcement officers. The detainee faces imprisonment for up to eight years for his crime.

According to the police, on the night of 30 October, in one of the villages of Yavoriv district, a 39-year-old local resident entered the territory of his fellow villager’s household, broke the lock on the garage door and took possession of a Musstang motorcycle. He hid the stolen vehicle in another neighbour’s garage. In the morning, the owner discovered that the motorcycle was missing and turned to the police for help.

Criminal police operatives, investigators and officers of other services of the Yavoriv District Police Department were involved in solving the crime. As a result of the measures taken, law enforcement officers identified and detained the offender and arrested him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office, served the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 2 of Art. 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal seizure of a vehicle). The article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to eight years with or without confiscation of property.

Law enforcement officers took the motorcycle to the impound lot.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspect.
