Man hits his brother in the head with a hammer in Yavoriv district

Police detain offender who hit his brother in the head with a hammer in Lviv region

It has been established that the relatives had been on bad terms for a long time, and that day a conflict arose between them. The suspect faces up to eight years’ imprisonment for his crime. The injured man is in hospital.

On 30 August, around midnight, the police received a report about a patient who had been admitted to a medical facility in Yavoriv district with a diagnosis of, among other things, a closed head injury, a fracture of the frontal bone and nose. Criminal police operatives, investigators and officers of other units of the Yavoriv District Police Department were involved in solving the crime.

Law enforcement officers identified the injured man as a 61-year-old resident of a village in the district. It was also established that that evening, a conflict arose between him and his brother, aged 63, during which the older brother hit the younger brother on the head with a hammer, causing serious bodily harm. The brothers had been in a hostile relationship for a long time.

The offender was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Yavoriv District Prosecutor’s Office, served him a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 1 of Article 121 (Intentional grievous bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspect.
