Police detain a thief in Zolochiv district right after he committed a shoplifting

Law enforcers once again remind that under martial law, theft, robbery, extortion, as well as misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office, are subject to maximum penalties.

On February 5, at about three in the morning, the administrator of a store located in the village of Pidkamin, Zolochiv district, called the 102 operational line and reported that an alarm had gone off in the commercial establishment.

Crews of the Patrol Police Response Sector, criminal police operatives and investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Zolochiv District Police Department immediately arrived at the scene. Law enforcement officers detained the offender, who broke into the store by damaging one of the windows, in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine when he was leaving the premises and trying to escape with the stolen goods. The physical evidence was seized from him.

The detainee was identified as a local resident aged 26, who had previously been brought to criminal responsibility.

Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Zolochiv Prosecutor’s Office, served the offender a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and a measure of restraint. The maximum penalty provided for by the sanction of the article is up to eight years of imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
