In Zolochiv district, a driver drove onto the oncoming lane, killing two passengers

Two killed and two injured in road accident in Lviv region

 

The driver of the minibus, who drove onto the oncoming lane, was detained by law enforcement.

The road accident occurred today, 29 May, around 07.00, on the Ternopil-Lviv-Rava-Ruska motorway near the village of Novosilky, Zolochiv district.

As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of a Mersedes Sprinter minibus, a 51-year-old resident of Chernivtsi, drove into oncoming traffic and collided with a MAN truck driven by a 43-year-old resident of Lviv district. After the collision, the minibus drove off the road and into a tree.

Two passengers of the minibus, a man and a woman, whose identities are being established, died at the scene of the accident. The driver and another passenger of the Mersedes Sprinter were injured and taken to hospital.

Law enforcement officers detained the driver of the minibus in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators of the Transport Crimes Investigation Department of the Lviv Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.

An investigation is underway, and law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
