Lviv region quarry manager to be tried for illegal sand mining

Under the procedural supervision of prosecutors of the Specialised Environmental Prosecutor’s Office of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the head of a quarry in Lviv region was served a notice of suspicion. He is charged with illegal extraction of minerals of local importance on a large scale committed by an official (Part 3 of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, from August to November 2022, the suspect organised illegal sand mining at the deposit. The latter is located outside one of the villages of Pustomyty district, Lviv region.

For this purpose, as the head of the quarry, the defendant extracted minerals outside the land plot defined by a special permit for the use of subsoil.

With the help of special equipment and subordinate workers, the man extracted more than 19,000 m3 of sand.

As a result of such actions, the state suffered millions in losses.

The investigation is ongoing.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, based on the materials of the SBU Office in Lviv region.

Note: Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
