The accident occurred on January 30, around 8:30 p.m., on Dasha Dyachenko Street in Pustomyty, Lviv district.
As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of a Ford Mondeo, a 36-year-old local resident, lost control, drove off the roadway and crashed into a parked cargo van.
The passenger of the car, a 66-year-old local resident, died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the car was injured and hospitalized.
It was established that the driver was driving the vehicle in a state of intoxication. He was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint.
Investigators of the Department for Investigation of Crimes in the Field of Transport of the Lviv Police opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286-1 (Violation of the rules of road safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles in a state of intoxication, which caused the death of the victim) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of five to ten years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
