Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a forester and a forester of one of the branches of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”, as well as the director of a sawmill company, were served with a notice of suspicion. They are charged with misappropriation of another’s property by abuse of office (Part 4 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the forestry and the company entered into an agreement for the supply of white fir timber.
However, later, the forestry officials, in collusion with the company’s director, took possession of the harvested timber products of the state enterprise for which they worked.
To do this, they loaded the timber onto the company’s truck. After that, they ensured its release without shipping documents confirming the legality of the sale of the timber by the forestry and without keeping records of the timber.
The investigation is ongoing.
The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv, with operational support from the State Department of Internal Affairs in Lviv region and the State Ecological Inspectorate in Lviv region.
Note: In accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
