Illegal felling of trees on the territory of the nature reserve for almost 1 million hryvnias – two local residents of Lviv region are suspected

Under the procedural guidance of the Stryi district prosecutor’s office, two local residents were notified of suspicion of illegal logging (parts 1, 4 of article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, one of the suspects illegally felled trees without a special permit in the forestry of one of the branches of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”, the territory of which belongs to the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine.

The man sawed the cut wood and transported it to his own household, where an underground sawmill was set up.

As a result of the illegal felling of trees in the above-mentioned nature reserve of the Lviv Oblast, more than UAH 900,000 in damage was caused to the state.

According to a similar scheme, another person involved illegally felled trees in a forest massif on the forestry territory of one of the branches of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”.

Later, he sawed some of the wood and moved it to the rented building, and left the rest at the site of the illegal felling for further appropriation. Such actions caused 80,000 hryvnias of damage to the state.

Investigative actions are ongoing, the question of choosing preventive measures for the suspect is being resolved.

The law enforcement officers discovered and seized illegally obtained wood, forest products, chainsaws and axes from the suspects.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of police department No. 3 of the Stryi district police department of the Main Department of the National Police in the Lviv region.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
