The perpetrator, a 21-year-old man from Lviv, was exposed by operatives of the criminal police together with investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1, together with employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Police of the Lviv Oblast, under the procedural guidance of the Galicia District Prosecutor’s Office.
As the law enforcement officers established, the suspect posted an ad for the sale of game consoles and computer accessories at moderate prices on one of the popular trading platforms on the Internet. At the same time, he did not intend to sell the specified goods, instead, by manipulating bank accounts and postal items, he appropriated the money of customers.
In addition, the criminal sold fake fuel coupons, thus misappropriating the funds of gullible citizens who intended to save money by paying for gasoline or diesel fuel a little cheaper than it cost at the gas station.
During authorized searches of the man’s place of residence, law enforcement officers discovered and seized a large number of fake fuel coupons, computer equipment, money obtained from illegal activities, drafts, mobile and bank cards, as well as other physical evidence.
The investigators informed the intruder about the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 3 of Article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by the article is imprisonment for a term of up to eight years.
Residents of Lviv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Volyn and Transcarpathian regions suffered from the suspect’s actions.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the law enforcement officers are identifying other persons who suffered as a result of the suspect’s illegal activities.
