The police arrested an intruder who threatened to blow up a building in Lviv

On July 20, around 1:30 p.m., the police received a message from the dispatcher of the “hot line” of the city of Lviv that an unknown person called threatening to blow up a building on Stryyska Street.

The investigative and operative group of police department No. 2 of the Lviv district police department No. 2, as well as explosives specialists, dog handlers and employees of other police services of the Lviv Region immediately left for the specified address.

Law enforcement officers inspected the premises and the surrounding area, and evacuated about 50 citizens who were in the building. No explosive or suspicious items were found.

As a result of the measures taken, operatives of the criminal police soon established the identity of the man who gave a false report about the mine attack, a previously convicted 42-year-old resident of Lviv. It was also established that the perpetrator was intoxicated.

Law enforcement officers detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

As a matter of fact, the investigators opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 259 (Knownly false notification of a threat to the safety of citizens, destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of two to six years.

The issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion of committing a criminal offense and choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
