A policeman from the Lviv region is suspected of murder in Rivne

A police officer from the Lviv region is suspected in the murder that took place in Rivne in the morning of July 19.

This was reported to the National Police. It is about an incident where an attacker tried to rob a money changer and killed a man who tried to prevent it.

The suspect was detained a few hours later, when he was driving towards the Lviv region. They stopped him practically on the administrative border of two regions.

“He turned out to be a policeman from the Lviv region. The pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings will be carried out by investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation under the procedural guidance of the Rivne District Prosecutor’s Office. The leadership of the police of the Rivne and Lviv regions will in every possible way contribute to the objective and impartial investigation of the intentional murder,” said the spokeswoman of the Rivne region police, Maria Yustytska.

The detainee is 27 years old, the press service added.

What is known
Around 10:40 a.m. on July 19, a man with a gun tried to rob a currency exchange in a store on Karnaukhov Street in Rivne. An equal, who was in the institution at that moment, tried to stop him. During the fight, the attacker shot the opponent and ran away.
Despite resuscitation measures of emergency doctors, the victim died. He turned out to be the husband of the owner of the store, as well as a member of the voluntary formation of the Rivne community.
The shooter fled the scene, the police launched a special operation. The suspect was detained in the village of Oparips, near the administrative border with the Lviv region.
