Suspect Detained in Lviv Region for House Theft

Police in the Lviv region detained an individual involved in a house theft. The suspect stole 85 thousand hryvnias from a home in the Stryi district. He faces up to eight years of imprisonment for the crime.

Details of the Crime

It was established that on February 21, the suspect, after damaging a window, entered one of the residences in the village of Zarichchia, stole the money, and fled. The homeowners discovered the theft upon returning home.

To solve the crime, operatives from the criminal police, investigators from police unit #1 of the Stryi district police department, K9 officers from the Lviv police with service dogs, and personnel from other Lviv police services were involved.

Detaining the Suspect

Through conducted activities and reviewing surveillance camera footage, the police quickly identified the fugitive’s location and detained him pursuant to Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The detained individual was identified as a 33-year-old resident of the Poltava region, previously convicted of property crimes. Physical evidence was seized from him.

In this case, investigators from the territorial police unit, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi district prosecutor’s office, initiated criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years. The pre-trial investigation continues.
