On 4 October this year, the defendant took the lives of a woman and a man: A 51-year-old local resident was shot dead on the territory of his own farm, and police found the body of his 48-year-old wife in the house – also without signs of life, with head injuries.
The police found that after the crime, the attacker drove away in the car of the man he killed.
The entire police force of Lviv, Rivne and Volyn regions was deployed to search for the attacker. Complex and lengthy searches were conducted, hundreds of gigabytes of video were studied, and more than a thousand people were questioned as witnesses.
The police identified the attacker and put a 36-year-old native of Lviv region on the wanted list.
During the pre-trial investigation into the murder, investigators also established the man’s involvement in a previous theft in the village of Kustyn, Lviv region.
On 3 November, law enforcement officers in Volyn received information that in the village of Ozertsi, an unknown person wanted to break into a private home, and when the owners tried to stop him, he shot himself in the head with a weapon. The man was immediately hospitalised.
The police found out that the victim was wanted for a double murder. He is currently in hospital.
Investigators of the Lviv regional police charged him with several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
– Article 115, part 2, paragraph 1 – premeditated murder of two people;
– Article 185, part 4 – theft;
– Article 289, part 2 – illegal seizure of a vehicle.
The man faces life imprisonment.
