A 38-year-old Lviv resident beat a famous Lviv artist to death – the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison

Prosecutors secure fair sentence for perpetrator of death of famous Lviv artist

Following a public prosecution by the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv, a 38-year-old Lviv resident was found guilty of causing intentional grievous bodily harm that resulted in the victim’s death, robbery and assault (Part 2 of Article 121, Part 2 of Article 186, Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of all his property.

Prosecutors proved in court that in July 2021, the defendant attacked a 65-year-old man on the staircase of a Lviv building. He was a famous Lviv artist.

The attacker struck him on the head, body and limbs and threw him down a flight of stairs. This caused serious bodily harm. Having seized the mobile phone and a shoulder bag containing the victim’s art supplies, the defendant fled the crime scene.

A month and a half later, the victim died in hospital from his injuries.

In addition, earlier in June of the same year, in one of Lviv’s Zaliznychnyi district squares, the convict attacked a passerby, beat him, tore off a gold chain from his neck and stole a bag with his belongings. After the attack, the attacker fled with the stolen property.

The defendant will be kept in custody until the verdict enters into force.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2 of the Main Department of the National Police of the region.

The court verdict will come into force after the expiration of the appeal period.
