Following a public prosecution by the Galician District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv, the court found a 40-year-old Lviv resident guilty of robbery combined with breaking and entering (Part 3 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
He was sentenced to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Prosecutors proved in court that in April 2020, in Lviv, the defendant committed a robbery of a currency exchange employee.
The man took advantage of the fact that the woman had gone out to change the numbers on the exchange rate plates on the front door of the premises. When the victim was returning to her workplace, the defendant, who was wearing a mask, followed her. He subsequently attacked the woman, putting a knife to her neck and overcoming her resistance by strangling her.
The defendant then took possession of the exchanger’s funds in the amount of UAH 85,000 and fled the scene.
However, the employee and other people ran after him. During the pursuit, the man lost part of the money – UAH 20,000, which was returned to the exchanger’s employee. The suspect was not caught that day.
However, within a month, thanks to the coordinated work of law enforcement agencies, the attacker was identified and detained.
The defendant will be kept in custody until the verdict enters into force.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Investigation Department of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
