The bus driver who caused a fatal accident near Davydiv will be tried

Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have sent an indictment to court against a 38-year-old resident of Lviv region. He is charged with violation of traffic rules, which caused injuries and death of the victims (Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that in mid-July, on the Mukachevo-Ivano-Frankivsk-Lviv motorway, a shuttle bus and a train collided within the village of Davydiv, Lviv district.

The bus driver failed to maintain a safe distance to the passing car, which had stopped before the intersection to turn left onto a secondary road. In addition, the defendant exceeded the speed limit and drove into the oncoming lane. There, he collided with an oncoming MAN TGX road train.

As a result of the accident, 9 people were injured. Of these, 4 were killed, including the driver of the road train. Another 5 sustained injuries of varying severity.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Investigation Department of the Main Department of the National Police of the region.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
